Kittens, lots of them

Grabbity June 30, 2009

Aside from being 1 of the 4 that have been actually named, Grabbity seems to be the cheekiest… if one of them is climbing a pile of papers that’s about to collapse, it’ll be Grabbity.. If there’s a sudden ARGH from me/Owe as our leg gets climbed, it’ll either be Grabbity or Monsieur! One awake that tries to wake the others? That’ll be Grabbity…

So, that and the fact that I’m sure he mum-to-be will appreciate it, here’s a Grabbity round up!

We had a visit last week from @EdwardClarke and his (much better than mine) camera!  Aside from it being lovely to meet him, it also means we have some awesome pics of the kittens 😀 (click on the small version to see the larger/Flickr page)

Filed under: Uncategorized — dinosaursinsocks @ 1:24 am

They’respending much more time out of hte box these days, so I’m trying to keep here updated with fresh pics so you can get your fix inbetween their nap time!

The ‘new layout’ can been seen on Flickr, along with notes, and you’ll see how little the cam now actually covers!!

Anyway, KittenLand had to be created sooner or later, we knew they’d be work out how to get out of the box/boxes soon.. and yeah, they did!

Escape!!

Escape!!

The latest amusing thing is that as soon as anyone enters ‘their’ area, there’s suddenly a mass of kittens on you… as seen below! (with DH/Owen; ignore the milky footprints all over the place… the milk on the cushion.. you get the idea!)

Firstly, a few of Sookie, without the kittens!

They’re growing at an astonishing rate, I’ve now added together the 2 initial boxes to make super-kitty-enclosure!

If you look carefully you can see KittenDaddy in the garden… Just at the top of the middle-2nd-from-bottom pane of glass

Juliet, and her romeo...

KittenDaddy keeps sneaking into the garden, and Sookie sits at the back door mewing at me to let her get to him! (fat chance!! EIGHT KITTENS!) He obviously knows he’s not welcome, because he shoots off the moment any of us arrive, but I managed to sneak a couple of pictures of him today, just wish I had better zoom!!

I need to get a better zoom...

Final pic for the day, Sookie doesn’t really drink, certainly not from any dish we give her, even if it’s fresh every day!  She’ll drink from a running tap, and has recently tried sneaking water from our cups/glasses, so I’ve started leaving a cup of water on the table, specifically for her, and it’s worked! WOOT!

Bottle feeding 101… June 3, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — dinosaursinsocks @ 2:13 am

Things I (now) know about bottle feeding kittens:

  • They have to be prone (legs down) – this is fine in theory, in practice it ends up with milk all down your legs
  • They should apparently recognise the teat and start suckling – in practise, the 1st few times you kind of need to shove it in a bit and dribble milk everywhere… by the 4th-5th time they kind of have the idea… cue more milk down legs
  • They should take down about 5-10 each feed – prep 20ml, 10 for the kitten, 10 for leg
  • They’ll still go back to mum after each bottle attempt, and look at you with scorn, like you just tried to poison them
  • Kittens will climb! All kittens really want to be parrots

And, just for good measure, worming 101

  • Kittens think that the worming solution syringe is the bottle…
  • Kittens realise it’s not the bottle when the sour solution kits their throats
  • Kittens spit our sour solutions
  • Worming solution is white, opaque white, and you should never attempt any of this in clean/nice clothes

We’ll try and get some better pics over the next few days, obviously I was more concerned with getting them to accept the bottle really, so hopefully it’ll mean it’s easier each time they feed! (also, ignore the slightly shabby shirt I’m wearing, you can see on the final pic why….)
